Curious to hear if anyone has experience with ingesting pure sugar, like maple syrup, towards the end of a race. If so, how much is worthwhile? And, how many minutes prior to the finishing sprint would be best to take it? I’ve heard of pros using maple syrup as an all-in, final fueling technique. I would guess it could be effective in a road race. In a crit as well (assuming I’m not breathing too hard and have a moment to do it)? Thanks.
I’ve never heard of maple syrup, but we used to drink a soda with 40-60 minutes before the finish of a race, mostly due to tradition. Maple syrup sounds pretty messy, I think I’d just take a gel.

Thanks C. I hadn’t considered the mess involved. Good point…
